Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty)
An eyelid or blepharoplasty is a procedure that removes the loose or droopy skin above the upper and lower eyelids as well as improves the contour of the upper and lower eyelids by removing or redistributing the fat in those regions.
Candidates for a blepharoplasty include patients who have droopy eyelids and or puffy eyes. These patients may or may not have their vision affected from the heavy eyelids.
The procedure itself involves removing baggy skin and possibly fat from the eyelid. a blepharoplasty will not correct low eyebrows and could potentially worsen them therefore a separate procedure may be warranted for certain patients.
Some patients may have extra upper eyelid skin that obstructs their visual fields. Due to the improvement in vision that patients may experience, insurance companies will sometimes cover an upper blepharoplasty. Documentation of visual field obstruction must be provided by an ophthalmologist who can perform visual field testing. SIH Medical Group Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery will help coordinate obtaining the right documentation to submit to your insurance company by working with you and your primary care provider.
